All the rage in the early 20th Century! - we have a small quantity of 'Home Potted Meat' pots from 'G.W Plumtree, Southport'. Good clear label in black on white ceramic.
All bearing some discolouration, crazing and a few little chips.
Victorian chemist pots and preserve jars such as these are highly collectable thanks to their decorative appeal and nostaglic texts. Our current collection consists of some excellent designs that we feel are sturdy enough to be in use. They are a welcome alternative to modern ceramic 'holders' being genuine, characterful and unique.
Each bears the label describing it's contents along with the name of company for which it was made. The transfer printed labels were applied prior to the glaze and firing so would not wear off or fade - hence their survival for over a hundred years!
They were found by a Cornishman who has spent many years scouring forgotten waste disposal sites countrywide. They have sat buried beneath rubbish damps for over 100 years and are in remarkable condition.
