USEFUL TIPS FOR OUR PRODUCTS
Antique Nickel Maintenance
A simple guide to caring for your ‘Antique Nickel’ products.
Antique Nickel is one of our most recent additions. It is a superior product range made and finished in England.
Our new range of antique nickel is a ‘plated finish’ with an ‘antiqued’ finish applied. Unlike many alternatives on the market, our nickel is a layer plated over a superior solid brass product (rather than a cheaper metal which will corrode quickly). As such this is initially more costly but will last far longer, standing the test of time if well looked after.
In order to retain the finish, regular cleaning with mild soapy water and a non-abrasive cloth is all that is necessary. We recommend a gentle application of pure beeswax after cleaning to help protect and maintain the finish.
Atmospheric conditions do have an impact, though rest assured that these products will not rust due to having the solid brass beneath the plating. The build-up of corrosive residue from rain, salty sea air and traffic effect all finishes eventually so it is advisable to keep your goods clean to avoid this. However in most circumstances this only means a quick clean every couple of months (as described above) to avoid the dulling down of the appearance. The products most likely to be prematurely effected by weather are of course external fittings and window fittings where windows are often open to the elements – polish as described above may be more necessary on these products.
NEVER USE ABRASIVE CLOTHS OR CHEMICAL BASED CLEANING PRODUCTS ON NICKEL. If in doubt, drop us an email!
