Bath Spa Visit

Fliss and I recently took a ‘girls’ weekend break to Bath Spa to visit some good friends Hannah & Hannah, who used to be part of the Willow & Stone team. Not only were we greeted by the first day of incredible spring weather but were immediately taken in by the beautiful architecture and natural surroundings that Bath had to offer.
Since working at Willow & Stone, we all quickly became obsessed with any kind of ornate ironmongery that offers an interesting history alongside. We also like to message Sarah excitedly about our findings; be it the ‘Hand of Fatima Door Knocker,’ stumbled across in Majorca whilst on holiday or in this case the traditional front door ironmongery discovered in Bath Spa (Sarah does pre-warn everyone when they join Willow & Stone that they quickly develop this new found hobby!). As well as being famed for the stunning Roman Baths, from the 18th Century onward this city was known for being rich in literature and art, which really translates into the architectural features that we encountered.
Our stroll through the city revealed a combination of ornate Front Door Furniture to simpler and contemporary front door fixtures. If you are enticed by the more decorative style (like me!) I would advise our stunning Regency Door Knocker which reflects the history of the Regency period in 1800s designed to express wealth and opulence. This is also a great option if you have a panelled door due to its slender design:
For a more traditional and less elaborate feature the Hoop Door Knocker or Doctors Door Knocker would be suitable, and is of course accompanied with it's own unique history. To read more about the history of door knockers click here
Another other attractive aspect about Bath city is the marriage of architectural history with modern touches, such as the vibrant coloured windows below. People aren’t afraid to experiment, and it makes each corner that you turn; be it a bookstore, offices or café, such a pleasure to discover!
