Matte black on cabinet

Understanding Matte Black Brass

Crafted in England to exacting standards, our matte black finish (on solid brass) has a rich feel with slight warm undertones of the brass that lies beneath. This finish has been applied to solid brass and is known as a ‘living finish’. Normal wear and handling will allow the contact areas to reveal the brass beneath helping to create an aged patina.

What is a ‘living finish’?

When we refer to a living finish we mean that the finish changes over time through wear and handling. Matte black is an applied finish that will wear off in the areas seeing most heavy use.

The matte black finish will continue to develop and the brass below slowly revealing over time and with use. The brass below is unlacquered and so will dull down and age for a natural patina once revealed. Each product receives a layer of beeswax to help protect the finish. We recommend great care is taken when fitting these products to avoid damaging/scratching the surface (thus revealing the brass).
