Antique Nickel Maintenance

Antique Nickel is a beautiful matte-style finish that is hand applied, giving an individual antique character to each piece.
Our Antique Nickel finish is a ‘plated finish’, where a layer of Nickel has been plated over solid Brass. Many alternatives on the market use a cheaper metal than Brass which will corrode quickly. As such this is initially more costly but will last far longer, standing the test of time if well looked after.
In order to retain the finish, regular cleaning with mild soapy water and a non-abrasive cloth is all that is necessary. We recommend a gentle application of pure Beeswax after cleaning to help protect and maintain the finish.
Atmospheric conditions do have an impact, though rest assured that these products will not rust due to the solid Brass beneath the plating. The build-up of corrosive residue from rain, salty sea air and traffic will affect all finishes eventually so it is advisable to keep your goods clean to avoid this. In most circumstances this only means a quick clean every couple of months to avoid the dulling down of the appearance. The products most likely to be prematurely effected by weather are of course external fittings and window fittings where windows are often open to the elements – polish as described above may be more necessary on these products.

Never use abrasive cloths or chemical based cleaning products on Antique Nickel as it may remove the hand-applied finish. If in doubt, drop us an email and we'd be happy to help - contact us at
