Choosing front door fittings can be daunting and so can picking a front door colour. We feel at Willow & Stone that you should go with what you love, your front door will not only greet you every day but also your guests! It will bring a smile to passers-by and add curb appeal and personality to your home. COMPLIMENT YOUR PROPERTY
The style and period of your property can help narrow down your options of fittings that you wish to choose. At the same time consider whether you want a traditional feel or a modern twist. Our polished brass, polished antique brass and distressed antique brass finishes are more traditional and offer a warmer look and work with a variety of bold and bright colours. Whereas polished nickel and satin nickel offer a contemporary feel and work equally as well with bold tones. A top tip is to consider your neighbours doors or house colour and choose something that will compliment and not clash. A bold or brightly coloured front door allows you to use your favourite colour on a smaller scale where it might be too strong to have inside of your home, it could be the perfect statement for your front door and introduces a little personality!
CHOOSE A STATEMENT COLOUR
We have chosen a few bold colours that really sing with the various finishes of front door furniture that we do. Painting your front door can be a reasonable way of updating and freshening up the outside of your home. Consider your property colour and if you have render be brave and paint that too. We have selected a few statement doors and render colours to give you the confidence that being bold and brave is a great thing to do!
The paint we chose is all by Valspar at B&Q, not only do they have a fantastic variety they can also colour match! The colours and products we chose are listed below:
PALE BLUE DOOR – Beach breeze (R230E) teamed with Renew Blue (R255D) – Paired with our Satin Nickel Hoop Door Knocker, Letterplate, Pointed Octagonal Door Pull, Round Door Knobs and a 3 Inch House Number.
PINK DOOR – Sweet Watermelon (R57D) teamed with Sooty Lashes (R209A) – Paired with our 3 Inch House Numbers, Large Beehive Door Pull, Reeded Beehive Door Knobs, an Oval Covered Escutcheon and a Rectangular Bell Push.
GREEN DOOR – Trailing Ivy (R234C) – Paired with our London Doctors Door Knocker, Plain Letterplate, Small Octagonal Door Pull and a Pear Drop Escutcheon.
YELLOW DOOR – Buttered Crumpet (R130B) teamed with Sooty Lashes (R209A) – Paired with our Berkeley Ring Door Knocker, Berkeley Lever Lock Set, and Berkeley Oval Covered Escutcheon together with a French Enamel House Number Plaque.
INSPIRATION
Here in Cornwall we are surrounded by streets of beautiful coloured renders and front door combinations that really lift the streets. For example the first below house in Truro features a turquoise blue for the render and a darker tone on the window, facer and guttering. The use of plants and greenery in the second image can really help soften and extend the bold statement of a door and enhance its beauty. Consider potting flowering plants or hanging baskets that complement the bold colour you have chosen. (This example is from @thedoorsofldn where you can find a wealth of front door inspiration).
At the Sandy Duck in Falmouth, the third image below, they have opted for hot pink which contrasts beautifully against the brass fittings (including our Octagonal Brass Door Pulls). While the white boarder and dark grey render add sophistication. They have potted up hot pink flowers to really bring the elements together.
