Embracing Natural Materials

Choice of material is a key part of our decision making when we are selecting products to sell online and in store. We always look for items which are made from materials that are high quality, durable and environmentally conscientious. For example many of our cards are printed on wonderfully thick FSC certified cotton paper and use vegetable oil-based inks. Here we talk a little more about two of our favourite suppliers who embrace natural materials.

We sell a range of beautiful, natural and practical household brushes at Willow & Stone to provide a stylish alternative to plastic brushes. The majority of our brushes are made in Germany by a company who have been focused on function and sustainability since 1935. The founder earned his living as a brush maker after becoming blind as a child. His inventiveness, his sense of quality and persistence brought about a company that is selling its natural products world-wide after three generations.
We select a range of fine brushes made only from plant fibres (rather than animal hair) such as our best-selling nail brush or our lovely curved dish brush, both of which are crafted from beechwood and tampico fiber (obtained from Mexican agave leaves). Produced using old manual techniques these brushes combine innovative design, sound craftsmanship and creativity to make cleaning your home a joy.

One of our favourite suppliers is a family run business based in Shropshire who focus products around the traditional form of woodturning. Working with raw Oak they create simple, practical home and garden products such as shaker style peg rails, picture ledges, light pulls, and poster hangers.
These pieces show off the natural beauty of the wood, and as they are all made from solid Oak they are strong, durable and require little maintenance. Hand-made in Britain these products can work in various households be it a cottage, period townhouse or modern home and feature regularly on insta-homes!
